Saint Mary of Egypt and Saint Zossima For St. Mary Of Egypt Chapel, Ontario. 16" h x 24"w. 2010. Acrylic on masonite with goldleaf.
My major contribution/addition to this traditional Icon is that I gave Mary a female anatomy; yes I dared to paint her with breasts. Every single icon of her, ever, has her painted with a man's anatomy. She is a woman, and she is made in the image and likeness of God. If a man's chest can be shown (like in the tarditional icon of St. Basil the Holy Fool of Russia) than a woman's should also be shown.
